Western Australia DKT – Frequently Asked Questions

To get your WA learner (L) licence: 1) Be at least 16 years old. 2) Pass the Driver Knowledge Test at a Department of Transport WA centre. 3) Pass an eyesight test. 4) Pay the licence fee. You must hold your learner licence for at least 6 months.

You need to answer at least 24 out of 30 questions correctly (80%) to pass the Western Australia Driver Knowledge Test.

WA learner drivers aged 16–24 must complete at least 50 hours of supervised driving, including 5 hours at night, before applying for a provisional P1 licence. Learners aged 25+ have no minimum hour requirement.

WA learner drivers must: display L plates front and rear, have a zero blood alcohol limit (0.00% BAC), be supervised by a fully licensed driver, and not exceed 100 km/h.
