Australian Capital Territory DKT – Frequently Asked Questions

To get your ACT learner licence: 1) Be at least 15 years and 9 months old. 2) Pass the Driver Knowledge Test at an Access Canberra service point. 3) Pass an eyesight test. 4) Provide acceptable ID. 5) Pay the fee. You can hold your learner licence from age 16.

You must answer at least 24 out of 30 questions correctly (80%) to pass the ACT Driver Knowledge Test.

ACT learner drivers under 25 must complete at least 100 hours of supervised driving, including 10 hours at night. Learner drivers 25 and over have no minimum hour requirement.

After passing your driving test, ACT learners receive a P1 provisional licence for 2 years, followed by a P2 provisional licence for 1 year. Only then can you progress to an unrestricted open licence. P-platers in the ACT have a 0.00% BAC limit and speed restrictions.
