Step-by-Step Process

1. Apply for a Learner Permit

Minimum age varies by state (generally 16). Pass an eyesight and knowledge test. Obtain your L-plates.

2. Log Driving Hours & Hazard Test

Complete supervised driving (often 100+ hours including night driving). Pass the Hazard Perception Test when eligible.

3. Take the Practical Driving Test

Book your driving test through your state transport authority. On passing, you’ll receive a provisional (P) licence, moving to full licence after the probation period.
